Do a Good Deed

Avoiding doom and gloom is a good start, but you can become more motivated if you do nice things for others as often as possible. Do you know someone you can help today? Do you know anyone who needs words of encouragement, financial aid, guidance and counseling, or any other need that you can meet? The scripture says that the one freely watering others will himself also be freely watered. (See Proverbs 11:25)

The problem is that sometimes we get caught up in thinking about how big our problems are, or how we cannot solve them and this can make us to feel powerless because we can’t do anything about them—things only God can change. I’ve learned that sometimes by thinking on purpose about doing things for others without any possibility for compensation or acknowledgment, it not only makes me feel better, but also allows God to make use of others to meet my needs.

So what can I do? You may ask. Well, the quick answer is a lot. Here are five key things you can do:

1. You can make financial donations to charitable organizations.

2. You can volunteer some time and energy for a worthy cause.

3. You can help someone to solve a problem by using your unique gifts, skills, talents, and abilities.

4. You can compliment others and encourage them to pursue the dream in their hearts.

5. You can put a smile on someone’s face by sending them a gift.

There is no better feeling than doing something kind without any possibility for compensation or recognition. Just one of these acts can make you feel happy and more motivated than you have ever imagined. But if you keep doing them on a regular basis the benefits begin to accumulate until you intensify the feelings even more.
