Give Yourself Reasons Why You Can
Each one of us has an internal
dialogue, an inner conversation going on with ourselves. In fact, we talk more
to ourselves than we do to anybody else.
The problem is that this conversation is often negative and it can
reduce our desire to do anything.
Furthermore, it is easy to focus on
the reasons why we can't do, have, buy, achieve, and become what we want (in
every area of our lives) instead of giving ourselves all the reasons why we can
do what they want.
For instance, consider someone
whose goal is to lose weight and get back in shape. Instead of giving
themselves reasons why they can lose weight and get back in shape, they start
to give themselves reasons why they can't achieve their goal. Things like:
· I'm not that
disciplined
·
I lack the determination
·
I love food; I just can't resist it - I’m a good cook
you know.
·
I'm so lazy; I don't think I'll make it.
·
I hate to exercise
·
I don't have enough time, I'm too busy.... and so on
When we keep our mind on what we
want we ignore the obstacles on our path because we know there is a solution to
every problem, and at the appointed time we'll find it. The reason we doubt is
because we don't keep our mind on what we want. As a result, it thwarts our
ability to think of the solutions to the problems we face, and how to get, do,
achieve, buy and become what you want.
To solve this problem, always keep
your thoughts on what you want, not what you don't want, and ensure that you
write down all the reasons why you can do, have, achieve, buy, and become what
you want (in every area of your life): Financial, business, career, physical,
health, family, social, relationships, personal, fun, adventure, mental,
emotional, spiritual, and ethical.
Then, review these reasons
frequently every day - especially when you begin to think negatively about the
attainment your goals.
Do the following exercise:
1. Take a goal
from each area of your life (ideally, these should be the written goals
in your goal journal)
2. Identify
the negative/ limiting thoughts that fill your mind with doubt and worry. These
thoughts will give you a clue on why you think the way you do, even though it
is leading you away from what you want. Then....
3. List the
reasons why you can do what
you want (in every area of your life) down in your goal journal to keep them in
one place, and for easy review.
4. List the
reasons why you can have what
you want (in every area of your life).
5. List the reasons
why you can buy what you want
(in every area of your life).
6. List the
reasons why you can achieve
what you want (in every area of your life).
7. List all the reasons why you believe you can become what you want (in
every area of your life).
8. After writing down all these reasons, read
them out loud and think seriously about what you just affirmed. And when you
affirm that you can do, have, achieve, buy, and become what you want, don't try
to figure out how it'll ever happen. If you do this you'll doubt in your heart,
and as a result, you won't have what you say. Have faith in God, and believe that what you say
will be done.
