10 Benefits of Having Written Goals
The weakest of ink is better than the strongest of memories. The very fact of putting your goals down on paper creates a psychological commitment. Also, it allows you to set your priorities, set deadlines, and to maintain balance in your life. However, many people don’t know what goals are and their vital importance as an ingredient toward achieving what they want. I read where less than 3% of adults have written goals!
I have written extensively on goal-setting and I want to help you master this art whether you’ve been introduced to goal setting before or not. But before I release my special report on goal setting, let me give you some reasons why you should consider forming this habit:
1. A person who learns how to set goals lives each day with a sense of clarity, confidence, purpose, and passion.
2. Writing your goals down gives you a sense of direction by providing a guide for you to stay on course, and this provides a road map to help you actualize your dreams and visions.
3. Helps you to decide what is important in your life.
4. Helps you to determine what you want to achieve.
5. Helps you to separate what is important from what is irrelevant.
6. Keeps you motivated.
7. Keeps you focused. Written goals will protect you from being distracted by other people's agendas and expectations.
8. Written goals help you to mark your progress and readjust the target date when necessary. In addition you can review your goals only when they are written down.
9. Written goals can help you to become more disciplined with yourself, and also create a psychological commitment. It is worth noting that many people fail to achieve their goals because they are not committed to them—they don’t finish the race so to speak.
10. In addition, written goals add value to your work, helps you to maximize your potential, and manage your time properly. You can't wisely allocate your time unless you decide what you want to do with your time.
I urge you to list all the things you want to do, have, achieve, buy, and become in the following key areas of life:
- Financial/career/business
- Physical/health
- Family/social
- Personal/fun/adventure
- Mental/emotional
- Spiritual/ethical
Then, get a goal journal and start putting these goals down in a way that is clear, easy to follow and provides all the information you need at a glance. If you have problems doing this, please read the following articles.

The Bottom line: When many people decide what they want they don’t get it simply because their goals are not written down on paper. As a result, they become easily distracted by unnecessary and unimportant activities.
