The Secret to Trusting God— Only Believe

The more we operate in trust, the more relaxed we are and the more enjoyable our lives will be. The question is what are we placing our faith in? The truth is if we trust ourselves, we'll probably spend a lot of time reasoning and worrying. If we place our faith in people, we'll probably spend a lot of time being disappointed.

The key to trusting God is to use the measure of faith He's given to each and every one of us, affirm daily out loud that we put our trust in Him, saying things like "I have faith in God that what He's promised to fulfill in my life will be done at it's appointed time," and learn to take steps of faith over time and through life's experiences to cause our faith to grow. The more we use our faith, the more it develops—it is like a spiritual muscle. And like all muscles, whenever they are not used for a very long time they atrophy.

Taking steps of faith

Faith operates in a realm that is beyond human reasoning. It is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things that we cannot see, touch, hear, or feel. When God speaks to us to do something that requires faith, we need to do two things:

First, we must choose to trust God regardless of what we perceive with our senses, and second, we need to step out and obey Him-- that means to begin doing what He's told you to do. We can't do one without the other and expect the right results. Stepping out and obeying without trust causes failure. In addition, it is foolish to pretend to have faith when we do not. If we are struggling to trust God, we need to be honest with Him. Say "Lord I believe, help my unbelief".

It takes time and Experience

We should realize that trust is not something we learn to do automatically. It takes time to develop and also through experience.
Furthermore, the scripture says that for everything there is an appointed time. The moment God puts a desire in your heart He set a specific time to bring it to pass. All you have to do is your part; when you do what you can do, He'll do what you cannot do. God will work with you, not for you.

The problem is that we have our way and our timing and God has His. And often God's timing involves more waiting than we would like. This is when the enemy attacks us with doubt and unbelief. To solve this problem, we need to learn to trust God with all our hearts and stop trying to figure everything out. Also, in everything we do, we should acknowledge Him and He will guide us every step of the way, and help us to make our plans succeed.
