How to Live Successfully As a Christian

The Bible says that if anyone is in union with Christ, he is a new creation; the old things passed away, and new things have come into existence. (2 Corinthians 5:17) This means that we put away the old personality, and put on the new personality which was created according to God’s will in true righteousness and loyalty. (Ephesians 4:22-24)

Furthermore, repenting and receiving Jesus as Lord and Savior, being forgiven, and having your name written in the Book of Life, is just the start of a LONG-LASTING Christian journey, which should take you to heaven.

To live as a Christian successfully and, without a shred of doubt, succeed to enter heaven, you have to practice the following 10 basic biblical principles:

1. Study the word of God every day

The word will not only reveal to you the amazing promises that God has in store for you, but also show you what He likes and what He hates. (1 Peter 2:1-2, James 1:21, Psalms 1:2-3, Psalms119:9-11)

2. Pray every day

Thank God (as many times as possible) during the day for what He has done for you and others, and ensure that you always make your needs known to Him when you pray. (Philippians 4:6)

3. Be a doer of the word of God

God’s promises will be fulfilled in your life only when you obey the word you read or hear. (James 1:22, Matthew 7:24-27) In fact, the Bible is the manual for Christians and we need to obey every instruction in it.

4. Have faith in God

Always believe that God can instantly and dramatically turn every situation you face around. Put your trust in Him completely. When you do what you can do, He’ll do what you cannot do.

5. Reject ungodly advice

As a new creation in Christ you have to do the following:

• reject the advice of ungodly people

• do not become unevenly yoked with unbelievers

• never follow the example of ungodly people

Ungodly people are those who do not practice what the Bible teaches, though some may even be church-goers, and calling themselves “Christians” (Psalm 1:1)

6. Fellowship with believers

Always fellowship with other true believers; joining together to study the Bible, pray, and also spending time with others who have committed their lives to obey and please God. (Hebrews 10:25)

7. Declare Christ wherever you are

Wherever you are, declare with your WORDS, and by your ACTIONS that you belong to Jesus Christ. (Matthew 10:32-33)

8. Sin no more

You must not sin on purpose, but if you do, you should immediately CONFESS AND FORSAKE it. That is, if you suddenly realize you have sinned, you should immediately admit it before God without making excuses, then ASK FOR FORGIVENESS and totally turn away from sin. (Proverbs 28:13; 1 John 2:1-2)

9. Never give up

Persevere (in prayer) in all trials and never give up. Consider it all joy when you meet with various trials, knowing that this tested quality of your faith works out endurance. Also, remember that the Lord is still with you, and victory is assured when you keep the right attitude, and obey Him every step of the way by listening to His still small voice in you.

10. Forget what lies behind

No matter what happens, you should never return to the sinful lifestyle that you had abandoned before becoming a Christian. Do not remember the first things, and to the former things do not turn your consideration. (Isaiah 43:18)
